The cover of the Olympic Hymn.

Music by Sp. Samara, poetry by K. Palamas.

"Today I visited Olympia.  Believe me, it is worth coming to Greece for this alone.  Here antiquity stands before you more vividly, more magnificently than even the Acropolis itself.  What I mean is that from the view of these ruins the imagination can recreate the image of antiquity more perfectly.  Olympia was not a city, it was a sanctuary.  From the aspect of private life, Pompeii is of greater interest;  one finds in Nikopolis itself and in Pleuron material for archeological studies which we also find here.  Olympia is something entirely different and much superior." - Demetrios Bikelas
